Guestbook The last week of December 2000 we went to Flaine (Haute Savoy - France). We found Flaine not to be comparable to La Plagne and Les Arcs. Why is that ? Flaine is situated in a rather deep valley,
so slopes going to Flaine are more steep than in La Plagne and Les Arcs.
Here you therefore find more red slopes than blue ones. So the more
experienced skier is better off in Flaine I would say. That's also the
reason why we will probably not be going back in this period of time,
because the sun disappears quite early in the afternoon behind the rim As for the area all together. We had a bit of bad luck because there wasn't enough snow to explore the total area of the Grand Massif. I overheard someone say that at this moment only about 1/6 of the total area was reachable. We had enough fun though. Another thing in favor of Flaine is it's reachability. Going to La Plagne or Les Arcs you have to drive the same road (and Tignes and Val d'Isère ) as well and there is therefore very heavy traffic in high season. As for Flaine, we drove trough Geneva and had no trouble at all. |
